International rules on forests as carbon sinks are determined unchanged

The current international rules to calculate how much carbon dioxide (CO2) forests absorb will continue in order to counter global warming. The rules for implementation of the Paris Agreement (see The Rinsei News, Issue No. 524) to come into effect in 2020 were agreed at COP 24 held in Poland in December 2018, and CO2 absorption by forests shall be calculated by the same method as in the second commitment period (2013-2020) under the Kyoto Protocol.
For more information, please refer to The Rinsei News, Issue No.596, published on January 9.
