Tree harvesting areas in national forests with the logging right for private companies for up to 50 year

The revised National Forest Act, which newly establishes a large-scale “tree harvesting areas” in the national forests and grants the “logging right” for up to 50 years to private companies, was passed and will come into effect on April 1, 2020. (See The Rinsei News Issues No. 598 and No. 599.) As concerns have been raised about the reliable implementation of reforestation, the Forestry Agency plans to set about 10 tree harvesting sites as models and to prepare operational guidelines by next spring.
